Everything You Need for Your Aquarium

Simply estimate the quality of water in the aquarium

All things aquarium

Experienced aquarium hobbyists know how important the water quality in the tank is. You can determine the exact values by different tests. You should also do this regularly regardless of your impression of the aquarium. But just by looking at your aquarium, you can evaluate and find out if more accurate water control is useful. The following signs provide you with valuable insights.

Fish on the surface

If your fish swims on the surface and gasps, this is an alarm signal! Your water quality can be so bad that your fish's breath is no longer working properly. Ammonia poisoning is often to blame. Ammonia damages the bearing. This means it is difficult for fish to absorb oxygen from water. In such a case, you should quickly perform a 90% water change and continue to replace the water a normal part for the next few days. Also, stop feeding for 3 days. For the next week, watch your fish well, check the water and technology values, especially the filter. Also, check to see if there is something "awkward" somewhere in the pool No: a dead fish or discarded food is a significant burden on the water. Excessive fish resources can also cause such problems.

Turbidity in the aquarium

If the aquarium water is cloudy, this can have many different causes. The suspended substances are to blame, but what are they? First observe that the suspended material will sink after some time, then there may be simple dust (for example, from the original rock) and you do not have to test the water. If the cloud does not go away, it could be bacterial blooms or infusion. With so-called bacterial flowers, bacteria multiply quickly in an aquarium. It can be very harmless and good filtering bacteria, but also capable of causing disease. In any case, you should check the quality of the water in the aquarium, because explosive growth indicates a disturbed water balance. This is the same for heavy infusion. These are unicellular animals such as amoebas, Flagellates and mascaras (for example, slipper animals). They usually occur as a result of bacterial blooms.

Diatoms in the aquarium

Do you have brown deposits on rocks and plates of your aquarium? It could be diatoms. They often feel a little rough and hard to remove. You can see that a special parameter in water can be very high: silicate value. Silicate (also known as silicate) usually enters aquariums from tap water. It is not harmful to fish. But diatoms need silicates for their cell walls and grow rapidly when so much is available. This can be extremely annoying. Silicate values cannot be determined by conventional test kits or strip tests. A special test is required for this. If the value increases, silicate should be removed from water with special filtration. Then you will quickly get rid of unsightly diatoms.

Kahmhaut on the water

Sometimes you can see a thin, milky white skin, on the surface of an aquarium. The reason for this is often bacteria multiplying on the water surface. This phenomenon can often be observed in newly established fish tanks that have not been run safely. Therefore, it indicates the unstable water quality in the aquarium. Therefore, you should test the aquarium water better if you observe the same in a withdrawn pool. If necessary, it can help provide an extra current on the surface of the water. This is usually very easy by changing the position of the filter's vent.

The epidermis can be colored differently. It depends on the type of bacteria. Usually it is just white. If cyanobacteria also play a role in their formation, they may also appear green to bluish.

Air bubbles on the leaves

Sometimes you can see it, especially in good light: small air bubbles form on the tree and grow slowly. When they reach a certain size, they float to the surface of the water. If you look closely, you can see that they become smaller again on the way there. This is related to the fact that the gas is dissolved in water. What you can observe is called photosynthesis. With the help of light energy, the plant converts carbon dioxide from water into visible oxygen bubbles. Your fish can breathe oxygen. If you can make this observation, it suggests that there is a lot of carbon dioxide in the water. This is great for plants. But be careful: too much carbon dioxide spoils your fish

Assessing the quality of water in aquariums

As you can see, it is often not difficult to see the quality of water in an aquarium. You don't have to be a trump card in chemistry, you just need to keep an eye on your pelvis. However, we recommend that you test your water regularly. The most important values, the concentration that you must always check once a week, are nitrite, nitrate, pH values and water hardness (total hardness and carbonate hardness). Values for ammonium, chlorine and copper may also be related to keeping animals in aquarium water. If you value beautiful plants pay attention to the water values of the nutrients carbon dioxide, iron, magnesium and phosphates. It is advisable to create a table for a better overview. You can enter the most important water values in this. If you've been measuring for a while, you can better gauge growth. And so it is more likely to prevent one of the above phenomena of poor water quality.
